Sky Watch #3 - Post 25

This photo was taken during my Memorial Day (May 26) visit to the Little Rock National Cemetery. The morning was balmy, the sky as you see it here, lots of blue with scattered clouds. Later in the afternoon, it rained -- hard! If you don't like the weather in Arkansas, just wait a few minutes!

Sky Watch Friday is hosted by Tom Wiggers. Please visit his web site to see wonderful photos from around the world.

  1. Dayton Veterans Center has a similar cemetery with thousands of tombstones that date way back in time. It is a shame to have to see this but there they are.

    Your photograph is beautiful.

  3. It's odd how weather can change in an instant like that, isn't it?

  7. The angle you took the photo from lines up the stones s they are almost like soldiers at attention. I agree with Sandy that it's a sobering reminder of what war costs.

  9. The flags near the headstones make them especially poignant. And something about the perspective of the photo makes the rows seem to go on forever.

    Very moving, Pat.

  11. Such a poignant shot. The weather in Arkansas sounds exactly like it is here in Melbourne - four seasons in one day!

  14. HA! Very funny what you wrote about the weather in Arkansas, it's a lot like that in Sydney, Australia. The clouds in your photo look lovely, even if soon turned mean ;)

  37. Very nice. A great story. And I love the other posts and pictures. Vietnam is not a favorite subject for many, me included. I served from 66-70. Lost a couple of friends and a few wounded. One, wounded for life. He took his own life Christmas day a number of years ago.

  40. Great photo, Pat. It reminds me of Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. In Georgia (where I live), a brand new national cemetery was opened about 15 miles from us just this past year. Surrounded by the rolling hills of southern Appalachia, it is an absolutely beautiful and peaceful final resting place. My wife and I hope to be laid to rest there, as veterans and their spouses are eligible (I was in USAF, 1961-1965). You can't make advance reservations, you have to contact them when the need arises.

Wonderful image, very evocative. Congratulations! (from a non-photographer, but I know what I like!)

  42. I love this photo Pat. It reminds me to be thankful to all who served our country. When we were children one of my sisters once won a poster contest with a drawing nearly like this for memorial day.
