Today's Flowers

This beautiful rose was blooming in the garden of a friend I visited last week. The petals are multi-colored, thus the name "Joseph's Coat." I caught this one in fully opened form. The major down-side to this rose variety is that the stems, both main and small leaf-bearing, are thickly populated with very sharp thorns. I'd hate to be caught in a thicket of Joseph Coat roses. I understand that this variety is recommended for creating boundry line hedges.

  2. Beautiful rose, Pat... Yes---those thorns can get you sometimes!!! Just ask George since he's the 'keeper' of our roses.

    Love that name, Joseph's coat...

  11. Very pretty rose and colouration as well as shape. Thorny roses are a bit of pain to trim down but with blooms like that one could take the inconvenience.

  14. When 'Joesph's Coat' is on it is a stunning rose. The colors are fantastic. After a few years of taking care of a big rose garden I have many scars. We suit up to go in there now.

  18. A gorgeous rose and a great photo, the lighting is perfect. Thank you very much for sharing it with Today's Flowers. Thanks also for stopping by my blog. I was at a park today and much to my surprise came across the same bush and white flower I had in my garden so at long last I was able to identify it. It is called a Double European Bird Cherry (Prunus Padus CV Plena).

  25. That is a nice name for a Rose! We have roses here in our area but I really do not know much of their names. To me, a rose is a rose. But it's good to learn more especially their own identity just like people.
