Camera Critters - Post 82

Come Into My Parlor
Said the Spider to the Fly.

I discovered this Orb Spider (9/24/08 correction: not an Orb Spider, but an Argiope aurantia, commonly known as the Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider or Corn Spider) lurking among the leaves of my day lilies, waiting for some tasty (to her) little bug to wander into her "parlor." She stayed here for several days, until the rain from Hurricane Ike destroyed her web. I've not been out to the garden yet to see if she's rebuilt it.

  4. Look at its markings, wow.
My leg got bitten by a brown recluse in Arkansas, so I'm not a big fan of spiders.

  8. Great shot! I had a black widow that insisted on building her web between the side of the house and the gas meter. I'm okay with spiders...as long as I know where they are! LOL

  17. I've watched that type of spider a lot. It's amazing to watch them make their web and also how they wrap up a critter that gets caught in it before they can get away.
