A Bit of Ice
In central Arkansas, winter precipitation is more likely to take the form of freezing rain rather than snow. Such was the case this morning. The temperature is hovering just below the freezing point (currently 30 degrees) and a light rain is falling. The ground is still warm enough that the streets are not icy, but shrubs and trees, and the utility lines, have a light coating of the frozen stuff. It's supposed to warm to above freezing later in the afternoon, but will be very cold again tonight. If it doesn't stop raining, we may have a real Winter Wonderland in the morning. I just hope the ice doesn't get heavy enough to break any power lines.
A lonely, dried out and ice-covered leaf still clings to my Japanese Maple tree.
My wind chimes, which were ringing in the light wind earlier this morning, are now sounding distinctly off-key due from a light coating of ice. These hang near my front door right under the eaves, in a position that manages to catch water as it drips from the roof. I've tried moving them to prevent this happening, but the move also prevents them from catching the breeze. Since they have an extremely pleasant sound under normal circumstances, I've decided to leave them where they are and accept the occasional freeze-up.

All of your rain is headed toward us, Pat. Right now it's 43 here--so ours will just be rain.
I hope you get the snow--and not more ice tomorrow. Love the ice pictures though.. I'll be waiting for you SNOW pictures tomorrow.
Hugs,
Betsy
Beautiful pictures. I remember living between Dallas and Longview and we had horrible ice storms! Hope it doesn't last long.
I'm enjoying your winter in pictures. They are wonderful. So far, Houston is just too warm for a little ice -- just a little -- not too much!
I think Sky Watch is wonderful and have added Camera Critters to my list and now I see I'll have to look at The Simple Woman's Day Book. What wonderful things you've found to entice your readers!
Well I see you are getting some ice, I'm hoping it doesn't decide to move north of the state line. Beautiful pictures!
Love the pictures...and I love wind chimes. I don't have any at present but may get some in the future. Again.
Oh, nifty icy scenes there, Pat. I especially like your perspective of the windchimes.....unique!
Yes, hopefully the ice won't build up too heavy and cause damage. Take care.
They're calling for some mixture here in our area tonight. I hope not, snow is one thing, ice I don't like.
Ice is so beautiful . . . and so destructive. I love your photos though.
Hi Pat,
Mr. Dragon is taking art classes at Glassell - the art school affiliated with the MFA,H. He took a You Too Can Draw community college class before he retired and when he discovered he could draw -- decided to go for it when he did retire. This will be his third class. I will post some of his art work from last semester soon.
Hugs--
We got y our freezing rain this Tuesday morning here in southwest Ohio. Not nice but slick.
Wow that makes for lovely photos though. I particularly love the icy wind chimes. Great shot. I hope you keep warm.
It's pretty, but if there is something other than the humidity that I really don't miss about that part of the country, it is the ice storms. Hope you kept your power.
No snow or ice here, but lots of rain. Four inches today so far....temperature 65 degrees.
Ice can be worse than snow.
what lovely photos....
I am mentioning your blog on a post I am doing on Friday (9th) on my blog.
Gill in Canada
Thank you Gil,. What a nice thing to do!
Stay Warm and be careful on that ice. Where I grew up in Texas we had ice, hardly ever snow. Man I don't like that stuff.
Have a great day
~M~
