Achoo!

I have a bad code!  I sneeds alod, by dose id rudding, by eyes are weeping, by froat id sore and by chest id tight!  I am floading from dringing so mudge hot tea.

Exactly where or when I picked up the germ/virus that caused all this discomfort I don't know, but I wish I had left it where I found it.  I don't often "catch" a cold, but generally will have one major episode during the summer and one in winter. My winter cold doesn't usually hit me until after Christmas, but it's come early this time.  It began last night during our church service when I started sneezing and my eyes started weeping; I hate to do that in church!

I will drag out the Vick's Vap-o-Rub and apply copiously, and suck on some mentholated throat lozenges.   I have things to do!  I can't give in to a cold.

Later, with dryer eyes and nose.

  1. Oh, do get to feeling better, Pat.
Your nose does 'sound' stopped up...but I could read what you wrote...one stopped up nose can 'hear' what another one is saying. Drink hot tea...and continue to take care of yourself.
    Many hugs to you,
    Jackie

  3. Gesundheit! While I was looking up how to spell gesundheit, I came across the following interesting article at http://health.howstuffworks.com/sneezing.htm about where and how saying “bless you” and “gesundheit” originated. Get well soon, Pat!

  4. Husband knocked out a cold with Alkaseltzer Cold medicine and Benadryl. I think he ended up seeing Dr for short round of antibiotic and cough syrup. Some these meds might make you write like your first paragraph!!!

Take care and rest, which often cures everything faster

  6. I got mine in Alabama a week before Thanksgiving and it is JUST NOW going away. Around here this year, four-weekers are common. Mine resisted the antibiotic Cephalexin, hot green tea with honey, mentholated cough drops, and my favorite home remedy, Vicks vap-o-rub slathered copiously on the soles of the feet at bedtime and covered with white socks until morning.

    Hope yours is somewhat shorter.

  8. I sometimes find that nose spray (made with oxymetazoline hydrochloride - AFRIN, for a brand name, but there are usually generics nearby on the same shelf) helps to clear the sinuses immeasurably. If you can use such a thing, do.

  9. Oh, the other thing I do, which makes me feel better, is to have a very spicy curry dish; as hot (spicy, that is) as you can stand it. Makes you sweat, which helps, and also releases endorphins in the brain which are what make you feel good generally.

  11. Please feel better soon! When we moved to Nevada, we were told to put Vick's on your feet as well as your chest! Hey, it works, just be sure you have an old pair of socks on to cover it.

  13. Dear Pat,
I'm glad that you were still able to find a glimmer of humour in your cold ridden opening paragraph! So sorry that you are unwell, and do wish you a speedy return to health. One pleasurable "cure" for a cold I once tried was a glass of rum with lemon and honey taken whilst relaxing in a hot bath! OK it didn't make me better, but I did get some sleep!
