The Simple Woman's Daybook

Today is January 5, 2009

Outside my window the early morning light reveals wet limbs and grass.

I am thinking of the weather and wondering if the forecast of freezing rain will be correct.

I am thankful for the gift of another day. I learned this past Saturday that my son-in-law's mother, who was only 4 months older than I, died in her home, alone. Rest in peace, Judy.

From the kitchen I smell fresh-brewed coffee, and am ready for my first cup of the day.

I am wearing
flannel pajamas with blue frogs printed all over, and fuzzy slippers.

I am going
to work in the church office later this morning... if the streets are not icy.

I am reading
Cheating at Solitaire by Jane Haddam.

I am hoping the weather permits me to get to the doctor's office this afternoon to pick up new written prescriptions.

I am hearing
thunder, the sound of rain on the roof, music from the windchimes hung outside my front door, and the neighbors' cars starting as they prepare to leave for work.

Around the house, there are daily chores waiting my attention.

One of my favorite things is checking for new posts on my most-visited blogs.

A few plans for the rest of the week include attending an Epiphany gift-exchange with a few close friends tomorrow evening (weather permitting), baby sitting my daughter's animals while she and her family are out of town for her mother-in-law's funeral, and baking a special cake for a special occasion.

Here is picture thought I am sharing:

Tools of the trade at one of my favorite Chinese restaurants.

I rather like the format, but I'm not a woman. I would have said that I'm not simple, too, but I have no corroborating evidence, so I'll let that part of it go.

Good Morning, Pat. We are drinking our first cup of coffee this morning also. YUM!!!!! It's foggy here and we are supposed to get lots and lots of rain today and tomorrow. Don't know when I'll get my outside decorations put away. Today and tomorrow--I'll undecorate the inside!!!

Happy Epiphany, tomorrow!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Anyone who wears pyjams with blue frogs on deserves a hug! In fact, the thought of them makes me green with envy, if I'm honest. You will gather, I like the colourful life...in Blogland, anyway! Love'n'hugs with pink hearts on.

I have taken down and put away all signs of Christmas.
I am hoping that the anti-biotics the dentist gave me this morning will work quickly so that I will be able to cook [and eat] yesterdays lunch of garlic roased lamb.
I wore three sweaters a fleece, hat a shawl to take Milou for his walk this afternoon...we don't have snow, we have freezing needles of tiny balls of sleet borne on a northeast wind.
Can I smell coffee?

Good afternoon. Breakfast is over, granddaughter is off to school, washed two loads of laundry, made up several beds, fixed lunch and washed up dishes from breakfast and lunch. Now it's time to get some stew meat on, so it will become good and tender so I can make these dough things we call rivels (don't know how you spell it) and cook in the meat broth for dinner this evening. Along with either a salad or a cooked vegetable of some sort. Granddaughter would eat nothing but pasta if she had her way She likes it plain with a little butter over it. For dessert either a fresh orange or an apple.

By the way, the Chinese food I really like is the Hot Sour Soup and the Kung Pao Chicken, also the pot stickers or dumplings and the fried crab ragoon.

This is so cool! Funny thing is it's a rare day that I even change out of my pajamas...they have little dogs all over them.
I hope you don't get that freezing rain they are talking about.
I hope you have a great week!

This sounds like fun Pat and useful to. I'll check out the site! I thought your remarks were delightful. Much hugs and hope the ice doesn't get back there. Careful, and don't fall!
