Needs Must

My mother used to say "needs must" quite often, and the phrase was added to my vocabulary as I grew older.

This morning was a 'needs must' morning.  While there's been some improvement, I'm still hobbling around with a really sore back. Be that as it may, both front and rear yards had to be mowed; I don't need any more notes from the City Fathers.  I had hoped that my Coast Guard grandson, who was here for a few days this past week, might have done that for me, but he spent most of his time with his sweet girlfriend.  I don't blame him at all; given the choice, I'd much rather sit in a cool room and watch movies with my sweetie than to push a lawnmower in the heat.

I'm happy to say that it took me only 45 minutes to mow both front and back yards.  Thank goodness for a self-propelled mower!  The discomfort in my back doesn't seem any worse. Perhaps the heat and exercise was good for it.

After I've cooled down a bit, I will water the flower beds then put out the sprinklers. The ground is, again, incredibly dry. Our rainfall seems to be either feast or famine.

I've still to do the trimming around the edges, but ...

...tomorrow is also a day.

I understand the girlfriend thing too but if you could do it in 45 minutes just think how quickly he could have done it! My grandson is supposed to be mowing at my house while we're gone, and he is. He just isn't weed eating because he doesn't know how to mix the gasoline and oil. Excuse me, what's wrong with asking? Young folks just don't think like we do. :) blessings, marlene

Blogger ate my comment... Darn!!!! Anyhow---I was telling you that you made me sweat just thinking of you out there mowing on a hot day... Yipes!!!!! Be careful and don't get over-heated!!!!

We have had some rain off and on this week ---so luckily, we are not dry (like we sometimes are this time of year). No severe weather here though --thank goodness..

Have a great weekend. IF You get two comments, just delete this one...
Hugs,
Betsy

Ahh Pat, look out for yourself. I agree with Marlene. There's nothing wrong with asking and/or reminding. As the mother of a young son with a girlfriend, I'd be irked if he hadn't helped is grandmother out.

I hope he didn't watch you mow. Self propelled or not that is hot, hard work and with a bad back yet. Hope he reads your blog.
I couldn't do mine with out a riding mower. Take it easy now for the rest of the week end, OK?

Arkansas Patti Oh, no, he didn't watch. He was on his way back to Texas by the time I cranked up the lawnmower. He would have done it for me, I'm sure, if I had asked, but I didn't. :( Mowing must not have done me any further damage; I'm still moving around and with no more discomfort than I had when I started.

My back from my last fall is just now feeling near normal. that's 4 weeks of misery, during which I had to vacuum as I lost/fired housekeeper. I now have a new one which I hope works out; she lives two blocks from me .

Front yard renovations are pretty well completed. So husband can take some time off from the heat. Neighbor boy has to study for ACT and some other test at school this week.

Believe it our not it is not many more weeks till school begins to be in the minds of teachers and students. Schoo supplies are blooming profusely in the big box stores.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to mow your lawn with a sore back. I'm glad you don't seem to be any worse for wear as a result. If we lived closer I would gladly help you mow your lawn.

"Needs must" sounded familiar but not quite right to my ears. Then I remembered the story of the woman at the well in the gospel of John, chapter 4. Near the beginning, it says (in the King James Version), "And He must needs go through Samaria."

Please take care of yourself! Glad you got it done though - maybe you're right - maybe it did some good getting out there!
Hope you are feeling better soon!
