An Award

I recently received this blog award from Old Lady Lincoln. Thank you, Patty. I'm honored. My day gets off to a great start by visiting Patty's blog for humorus or inspiring posts. I like your style too, Patty.

Sometimes I pass on the few awards I've received, and sometimes I don't, which is why I'm a bit shy about publicly acknowledging the receipt of them, although I am always pleased that anyone considers my blog worthy of such. I don't have any trouble finding others to pass this one on to, however, and I choose:

Bob Brague at Billy Ray Barnwell Here (a blog book containing both autobiographical and fictional occurrences and unusual written construction which is often extremely funny). Bob also has another blog, rhymeswithplague, which, if you enjoy well-turned words and interesting facts, you will find quite enjoyable.

Jeannelle at Midlife by Farmlight (a photo journal of everyday, and some unusual, occurrences at an Iowa dairy farm; life like it is).

Ruth Hull Chatlien at Ruth's Visions and Revisions (warm, spiritual without being preachy, uplifting and interesting).

Jim Sullivan at Suldog (definitely not the "proper Bostonian," Suldog has a style of his own; his blog posts may not always be appropriate for the faint of heart, but they are very often hilarious). Yes, Suldog, I know this award is a bit "girly" for your site, so I won't be offended if you don't display it, but I'd be honored if you did. :)

A Mule Story - Post 96

Whodathunk that a sweet, gentle blog such as mine would receive an award such as the one above? My erudite and clever blogging buddy rhymeswithplague received this award back in August, and per instructions, he passed it to others, among them myself, a most unworthy recipient. But, thanks, anyway, rhymeswithplague. I've taken a long time to acknowledge my award publicly, and I apologize.

As I thought about the award's title, it called to mind an experience of my days on the farm. Our next door neighbors (if you can call almost a mile away "next door") had a huge gray mule which was used to pull whatever farming equipment needed to be pulled. Occasionally, J.D., one of the younger teenaged boys of that family, would put a bridle on the beast and ride over for a visit. As I recall, we were the only kids of their ages for about 5 miles, at least.

I once had an opportunity (I use the word jestingly) to ride this behemoth. He stood about 17 hands at the shoulder, which was about the same height I was at the time. I had to stand on a barrel in the yard to get up on his back. And, "back" it was... no saddle. Although I was tall, I was skinny. I weighed only about 90 pounds, soaking wet. The mule probably didn't even realize I was there... until I kicked him in the ribs to get him to "go."

To my remembrance, that's the only time I ever "kicked ass."

Post Script: Yes, I realize that technically this mule was not a true ass, but its donkey daddy was an ass. I suppose this mule was only half-ass.

Thank you, Luiz Ramos! - Post 80

I am honored to have received a blog award from Luiz Ramos, the author of Natural Shot Photos which originates in Brazil. Luiz and I cross paths on several weekly memes, and I greatly enjoy his photographs of beautiful flowers from his garden, and sights around the Rio de Janiero area. Pay him a visit; I think you'll enjoy it, too. Thanks, again, Luiz!

A Blog Award - Post 40

Today, I received a blog award, "You Make My Day." Out of the clear blue, as it were, it arrived, courtesy of "Jeannelle," of Midlife by Farmlight. I invite you to click on over to her site (which you will like very much, I believe) and read the post about it. Thank you, "Jeannelle." YOU made MY day!
Now, the hard part; I've got to pass this award to ONE, and only one, blogger. This will be a challenge, and I'll have to sleep on the decision.
