Can It Really Be Fall? - Post 92

Dogwood branch

While I was outside this morning looking for a Sky Watch photo op, I spied my neighbor's dogwood tree and was captivated by the beautiful leaves. Dogwoods and Bradford Pears are almost the only trees in our neighborhood that have begun to develop much color. The same neighbor's Sycamore tree has only a few bright gold leaves on it, and even the maples are just now beginning to display the beginnings of their fall glory. Arkansas trees can be very beautiful in the fall, but it sometimes takes a while for the color to develop. Then, with the first hard freeze, it's all gone... overnight, in most cases.

The branch pictured above hangs almost over the fence which divides our lots. The tree trunk on the right is inside my yard.

You're so much further south...our fall is in full swing here - some of the trees are on the down side of color. Our first big freeze is supposed to be coming tonight.

Beautiful! We had our big freeze two weeks ago - when we got the 4 inches of snow. The hills and mountains are gorgeous with color right now.

Beautiful photo. I like to see the leaves turning, but I don't really care that much for Fall, I think in part, because I know Winter is right around the corner, and Abe and I both have Birthdays in Oct. Late Spring has always been my favorite time of year. Have a wonderful week-end.

Lovely picture, thought at first it was Bourgainvilia [sp?]

FFF bought me one last time she visited, really tiny, now it is two feet tall and I have made it warm for the winter as Bourgain...is a plant from the med. and only recently been produced as a hardy plant.

My neighbors dogwood tree isn't that colorful yet. Tomorrow my wife and i are going to Eureka Springs and will be traveling the "Pig Trail" portion of Highway 23. We are hoping to see beautiful color. Fall is definitely here. The last two mornings have been in he low 40's.

Hi, Moannie, Bougainvilla is not hardy here, either. I've unsuccessfully tried to keep a plant,of it in the house but I've not enough light for it to flourish. They are lovely, though. I hadn't thought about how much this dogwood branch looks like bougainvilla from a distance, but the colour is right. Thanks for your visit and comment.

A lovely picture of the beginning of autumns colourings. I think in the colder climate it is like a present before winter comes.
The skywatch picture with its soft blue sky, some clouds inviting rain is very pretty. Did you get a storm? Have a nice weekend Pat, and best wishes.
(I enlarged the picture and it looks really nice.)

I hope everyone enlarges this--it is fantastic when opened up.

Beautiful fall picture and great skywatch shot. Have fun with the photo class. Careful girl about burning the candle at both ends with all you got going on. Have a great weekend.
