Walk Awash- Waskly Wabbit Wuns for Cover

As of this posting, we've had just under three (3) inches of rain since early morning, and while the area surrounding the new walk drains fairly well between downpours, it quickly becomes filled with water with each new shower. Part of the problem is that it receives runoff from the roof. The drip line was not much of problem when this area was all grass, but if I'm to have any sort of decent garden in this spot, it looks like a gutter across the porch roof is in order.

The weather forecast was a bit off. Oh, yes, showers and thunderstorms were predicted, but with total rainfall estimated to be between one-quarter and one-half inch. By 9 a.m., we had 1.66 inches, and the rain has continued through the day, alternating between sprinkles and downpours.

I've had a great time watching the birds today. They disappear into the trees, or elsewhere, during the heaviest rain, but as soon as the shower lightens to a sprinkle, they are back in force at the feeders. Even the hummingbirds will come back to their nectar almost immediately once the heaviest rain is over. I've put a small feeder in the crepe myrtle tree to the right of the new garden bed, and the young cardinals have discovered it, guided to it, no doubt, by their brilliantly colored father.

Oh: The waskly wabbit must have been under cover, because s/he has not been seen since the rain started.

Holy Cow.... George said (when i told him that you have had 3 inches of rain) that we need to get to Arkansas to see our waterfalls there which we love. Today would be a great day to see them, or even tomorrow!!!!

We have had no rain --but they say we may get some tonight and tomorrow. I hope we do get some since George had to water the roses today.

Send it my way!!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

I do believe weather insanity rules. It's crazy everywhere! When I was in MO, it was greener than I've ever seen it! EVER!

Oh, and it rained here in CT all DAY! I do believe I might be rotting from moisture over-exposure.

Had the same thing here and I just loved it. My hummers visited all day as the feeders are under cover.
Fortunately I am on a hill so there was no standing water.
Power flickered all day but didn't go out for long periods. Just hope this cool lasts. Enjoy.

Thankfully, the power only flickered...I don't like it when the power goes off. Take care...stay dry, and know that I am thinking of you.
Smiles from Jackie
P.S. I notice that the birds do tend to come right after a rain!!

Yesterday we had 3 inches of rain here in 3 hours, and over 4 inches for the day. My shop flooded and there were several accidents in town cause by the heavy rain and flooded roads. Today looks like a beautiful day

We had 3-4 inches, and then a lesser amount the next day. I'm not complaining since I have all those new shrubs to babysit.

In fact My company left today and it rained the entire time they were here. We sat around and did "family" talk which probably was just as beneficial as running all over Hell's Half Acre sightseeing with us 70+ year olds worn out bodies. Only one was under 60.

I guess waskly wabbits know enough to come in out of the rain.

Hello Pat, Thanks for your "Are you folks OK?" on my site it was sweet of you to think of us, I have left you a response on my site, but I'm happy to report that there was no damage here from the recent earthquake.

Goodness, 3 inches of rain in no time at all, you will be feeling like trading in the car and purchasing a submarine to do the weekly shopping! Sorry to see that it is making your nice new garden all muddy, very frustrating. We were most impressed with your lovely orange canna lily, what wonderful leaves too!

Best Wishes, P & L

I work at a drug rehab in Oklahoma and have recently experienced the lovely graces of a hummingbird on more than one occasion. I love looking at them they seem to remind me of a little fairy or something. These are the most magical creatures.
