Thanksgiving Comes First

If you are dismayed, as I am, by the overwhelming displays of Christmas merchandise in the stores well in advance of even Hallowe'en, I recommend to you the following blog post by Jim Sullivan, a.k.a. "Suldog."

Thanksgiving Comes First

I wholeheartedly agree with Jim.

ALL holidays that have commercial potential are pushed far out of their intended time frame. One of our local super centers will have Valentine merchandise on the shelves when the store opens on December 26, having moved the left-over Christmas merchandise to the clearance department. Makes me disgusted, it does!

And it seems to get worse each year. Yes, take one at a time.

Hi Pat, I totally agree. Everyone around here has Christmas stuff out already. Even though we haven't even had Halloween yet---they are pushing Christmas. That's how far our country has gone --when it comes to celebrating the holidays. I love Thanksgiving and will celebrate it BEFORE I even start thinking about Christmas. GADS!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Totally agree. It is getting just silly how soon they start. Thanks for the Suldog link.
Guess the bad ecconomy has the retailers scratching for dollars. Little do they know they are just irritating us into buying nothing.

Thanks for the link. I guess the economy is so bad folks are pulling out all the stops to get us to shop. Well, it's not going to work. Leave Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas where they belong ... Please!!!! :D

Yeah, pretty soon Christmas will start in January all over again. I'm sure it is even worse this year as busnesses will be hawking their wares earlier, expecting a rather dismal shopping season.

It might not hurt us to shop less and concentrate more on "the reason for the season."

My list is trimmed considerably--not monetary wise, but where I send it. Despite the economy, not one single person on my usual lists is in bankruptcy or food stamp lines.

Hi Pat...
Yes, Christmas items are out everywhere here. Too bad that the reason for the season isn't out en masse as are the decorations.
I hope that you have a great weekend.
Hugs and smiles to you from Jackie

I agree that Thanksgiving comes first. But I sort of like that they haven't over-commercialized it yet.

No Thanksgiving holiday here but that has not stopped the Christmas boom already. Not before Bonfire night at least, please, and even that on November the fith is too early.

Quite true, Pat. It really is disgusting to see that.

I totally agree with you on that. I wonder if advancing event-related decorations and merchandise would help boost sales. Or are they just telling us to shop earlier in order to avoid the Christmas rush? Either way it's all the same when you look at the big picture. Personally, I think putting them up and out way too early just dampens the anticipation.

My goodness! I'm late in saying 'Thank You' to you for this. My apologies. When I do my next update, this will have a prominent mention, of course.

It does seem to get earlier every year. Hallmark ornaments being out in September is horrid.
