It's a Bit More Like November Today

Gone are the balmy 70+ degree temperature, blue skies, open windows and the pure pleasure of walking around on a fall day that we had yesterday. I awoke to light rain, brisk winds, and considerably cooler temperatures.  Going outside without a jacket is for those with a bit more padding than I have, and I have plenty, thank you, since the wind chill is at the 40 degree mark.
The temperature is not supposed to fall into the freezing range this week, but I really should have already begun to think about moving a few plants inside (all I have room for), and taking cuttings from those that can be carried over to spring in that way.

Since we've returned to "regular" time, I've been enjoying the earlier light, but I don't like the early darkness. As I write this, it's not quite 5:30 p.m., and it's already time to close the drapes and turn on the lights.

The early darkness also seems to make me sleepy, and I'm sometimes ready to turn in for the night at an unreasonably early hour. Yawn!   I haven't had supper yet, and I have a stamp club meeting at 7, so I can't go to bed now, but I'll bet it won't be long after I get back home before I'm tucked in.

I hope you're enjoying your mid-November weather, where ever you may be.

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who doesn't like the early darkness. I don't like it at all. I'm still all mixed up regarding the time of day/night.
I wish we could just leave the clock alone!! :)))

Jackie

Oh how I hate this time change, Pat. We are right on the edge (we're in Central time) of Eastern time--and it is dark before 5 p.m. now. DARN!!!! AND--it's light long before we get up... Hate it!!!!

That cold front and rains are headed this way.... I love the summer-like weather---but truly, I'm ready for some REAL November.
Hugs
Betsy

Hello Patti,
Ah the days getting shorter, and the weather closing in. Time to eat plenty, read lots of books and hibernate a bit!
I liked the photo of the dramatic cloudy sky. I must say that I wish "they" wouldn't play with the clocks, but that we were allowed to just go with nature a bit more and adjust our lives to keep pace with the shorter (or longer) days. Of course I am in the fortunate position to be looking forward to longer hours of daylight and summer; however today was changeable, windy and cold and probably was rather like your autumn! "They" (whoever they are) say that we might get some icebergs near New Zealand this year. We did about 3 years ago. A stray one got to within about 60 miles of Dunedin, and was popular with tourists for the short time it was here.
Thanks for your comment on my site, it is always really lovely to hear from you. Best Wishes, P.

I too dislike these early dark days. At my age, dark indicates time to sleep and I don't need any earlier times to hit the pillows.

Mid November here has been freezing cold. We had 3 inches of snow Saturday and it didn't get above 21. Brrrrrrr!!

November has been the unusual month this year with 70 degree days; today possible snow flurries or ice in my area. Hope it is the former and not the latter.

We had 1.75 inches rain Sunday night, which I guess the Lord decided we needed. From the looks of the Lake I think it fell on the wrong Lake.

Very interesting cloud patterns--good job.

I don't know anybody who likes the time changes twice a year. Farmers ignore them as they do what they have to at the time demanded by natural cycles, not man-made idiocy.

Overall, our November is nicer here than it was in October. From here on in, I'll jut be waiting patiently for spring. :) Pretty pic.

Hi Pat!
I'm loving fall in Houston ... finally got *cool* enough to enjoy being outside and taking in more of Mother Nature. Hope your stamping is going well. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I know what you mean about the time. Last evening as soon as the dinner dishes were done and put away, I had my night gown and slippers on to watch TV. Yawned all evening, then when it was time for bed, seemed like I wasn't all that sleepy, but almost fell asleep before I had my prayers finished.

Hello Pat! It does take some time to get acclimated to the cooler weather. Don’t think I got around to mentioning how cool it was you went ballooning. I loved the picture of you and the pilot just before takeoff – you looked radiantly happy! : )

Ah, yes. In the summer, Jo and i work outside after our afternoon walk and break. Now it's dark then.

Our plants are inside, but we still haven't had below freezing temperatures up here on our ridge. There has been light freezing down in the valleys.

Seems like we saw more than the usual amount of those low, gray clouds in October, but November hasn't been quite so bad.
