Neither Gone nor Forgotten, Thank You

Thanks for your various inquiries into my well-being, etc. I truly appreciate those who have missed me.

I'm posting this from my church's computer. Someone, who unfortunately is anonymous, has sent me something that contained a Trojan Horse virus. I suspect it was through my Outlook email, which is currently unavailable to me -- blocked off completely by my antivirus program. Where was this wonderful program when the nasty thing came into my inbox? Inquiring minds want to know. I've run a complete virus scan on my hard drive twice, and something is still sitting there, gloating over my distress.

Although my computer has not "crashed," all is NOT well. I'm trying to preserve those of my photographs which had not yet made it to the flash drive, and can only hope that is successful. Unless some computer guru (which I cannot afford to pay at present) can successfully remove the whateveritis, I fear that my hard drive will have to be reformatted. I HATE THAT! (please excuse my shouting, but I feel it is warranted in this particular case.)

Other than having computer problems at home, I've been busy with year end church work which will soon come to an end.

I'll try to post to the blog when I can have access to someone else's computer, so posting will most likely be sporadic until my mess is cleared up.

As a famous general once said (and I DO know who it was) "I shall return."

More, later... probably much later.

Several antivirus sites offer free analysis of your hard drive. I used this technique to find out what big is where, before. If you like I'll research the best one, or maybe gardener daughter can do that for you.

Hi Pat, I sure have missed you... Glad YOU are okay--even if your computer is not. Hope you can get that ole' virus out of your computer before it destroys your pictures...

Take care and get back with us when you can.
Hugs,
Betsy

Better the computor than you, Pat, though if anything happens to PACO I should be devastated 'cos I've been TOLD to copy things, back 'em up etc., but the person who insists never seems to have the time to show me how-what is it with these people with lives of their own, places to go, people to see?

This weekend I shall get down to it, there has to be a tutorial on this thing.
Be well, and hope it all clears up for you soon.

Very happy to know you're OK, though it may be a while before you're able to read this. Roommate and I daily run and update several screening/scanning programs on the computers we use. No one should be on the internet these days without one or two; there's just too much "out there." It takes an hour and a half to activate them and run the scans every day, but it's better than the hours one will spend (count on it!) searching out and obliterating the bad stuff.

But mainly, I'm glad to know you're well -- or as well as you can be under the circumstances.

Our annual Parish Meeting is this coming Sunday, and some idiot has put my name up for the Vestry! Please keep me in your prayers.

So good to know that you are OK. As for computer viruses and their originators...... words fail ! Hope you are able to retrieve all your data.
Best Wishes from NZ

Hello Pat! How are you weathering the storm? Did you get any ice? I hope you have electricity (and a working computer) and are keeping warm!

Pat, if you should ever get an Apple, you won't have one one-thousandth the security issues, and it works enough like Windows that it takes very little getting used to. I hated paying at least half again more for it, but after three years, I can tell you that it was well worth it. I would never go back.
