Today's Flowers - July 5

Milkweed (Butterfly Weed) Flower Head

My gardening daughter, Jean, is a lover of all sorts of plants, especially those that attract butterflies, and more especially, Monarch Butterflies. She was overjoyed to find a Milkweed plant for her garden (evidently hard to find around here). She told me yesterday that, while the Monarchs have not yet shown up, the flowers are already attracting all sorts of butterflies.

Today's Flowers - May 10

Iris

More beautiful flowers from my daughter's garden. Nearly all the flowers in my own garden are day lilies, which have not yet begun to bloom. Daughter's yard is full of a variety of blooming plants, and I've been taking advantage of having them available to photograph.
According to Wikipedia, Iris is a genus of between 200–300 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. It takes its name from the Greek word for a rainbow, referring to the wide variety of flower colors found among the many species.

Today's Flowers - Post 108

Sedum
Posted by Picasa
We had a hard freeze last night, and there's not a flower to be seen anywhere in my yard. So, I searched my photo archives for a suitable offering for today. This was taken in September, in my daughter's garden. I can't discern any appreciable fragrance in these flowers, but the bees seem to love them.

Today's Flowers - Post 78

Last week, my Today's Flowers post was a single "Spider Lily" that was growing outside my front door. It was the only one that bloomed in my yard. This photo is of a section of my daughter's flower garden. She has hundreds of "Spider Lilies" growing amidst her other flowers.
