ABC Wednesday - Round 3 - "I" - Post 79

INCREDIBLE

I've outlived my threescore years and ten, and have seen a lot of things. One thing that I had not seen until Monday of this week was this: a Monarch Butterfly caterpillar in the actual process of changing from a squiggly, voracious worm into a jade-green chrysalis which will protect it as it metamorphoses into a beautiful butterfly. My daughter, whose photo of the pupating event is shown, has about 20-25 chrysalides in her home, along with another dozen or more Monarch Butterfly caterpillars. She's sort of a nature nut, and her children are fascinated by all this (as is her mother.) I hope to be present when the butterflies emerge; I haven't witnessed that before, either.

While watching this transformation, all I could say was "incredible, just incredible." With this in mind, my ABC Wednesday's "I" post was created.

ABC Wednesday was created by Mrs. Nesbitt. Please visit the ABC Wednesday site to view others' interpretations of this week's letter, "I."

"Bullfrogs and butterflies - they both been born again!" Have you heard that song? When I saw your photo that's what it brought to mind. Bless you!

You are right, INCREDIBLE! I've thought about getting some chrysalids for my girls to watch. Now I'm convinced. But the caterpillar turning into one is cool, too. Must do research!

Simply grand Ruth. I've never seen one except through photography. You seem to have every day of the week tied up with photo groups! LOL. Your becoming quite an expert.

That is indeed incredible! And very beautiful too.

I have a jar of caterpillars in the process of changing into chrysalises in my spare room right now - nothing so exciting as Monarch butterflies, these are almost certainly just Cabbage Moths, but the eggs were laid on my lounge mirror!! So, there they are.

Disappointingly, they're pupating underground. All I can see is the odd shiny brown case pressed up agains the plastic of the jar.

Metamorphosis as an idea is pretty incredible itself, but your photo brings it home in a big way!
