Sky Watch

Scudding across the sky, driven by a bitterly cold north wind, the gathering clouds announce that Winter is here, even though the official date for the season is a couple of days away. Don't let those glimpses of blue sky fool you; there was an impending ice storm in those clouds.

Sky Watch was created by Dot and expanded upon by our retired friend Tom. This weekly theme post is brought to you by Klaus, Sandy, Fishing Guy, Ivar, Wren, and Louise. Visit the Sky Watch Friday home page anytime after 7:30 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time on Thursdays to see sky photos from around the world. You'll be glad you did.

Yep, those clouds most certainly look threatening. We're expecting a foot (or two!) of snow tonight and tomorrow, according to latest estimates. Yikes!

Looks awful cold to me! Let's hope there isn't any ice in those clouds.

That is a busy sky, did you take these at the beginning of the week, as we had a nasty storm then as well.

Beautiful and cold looking stratocumulus display! Hope you are doing well through all the weather.

Well, you have to admit, Arkansas never has a wishy-washy sky. I remember it as always dramatic, for better or for worse.
Watch out for those ice storms.
Great picture.

The bits of blue soften the flurry of cold clouds. Great picture. I wish you a happy Christmas.

I would be happy to receive any of that eccess snow please. Getting so tired of these black Christmasses that we seem to be heading for again this year. Lovely photo of a very dramatic sky.

Merry Christmas!

That is an icy sky! I know the feeling. It blows a wind that chills you to the bone. Thank you for the visit.

These winter skies are so beautiful aren't they? Yet heralding icy storms. I have to laugh when England collapses under two inches: every weather report tells us all it is coming, and yet it always catches us with un-gritted roads.

A Happy Christmas to you and yours, Pat.

First time visitor to Arkansas and my do those skies look threatening. A foot of snow in a day? We'd be lucky to get a foot of snow in two / three years.

There's more beauty in God's heaven than are thought of in your philosophy to paraphrase the Bard....loved this shot.

Mannanan: No... no foot of snow in a day here, or at least not very often. The last big snow we had like that was back in the 80's. We're more likely to get ice here, which is what came last Monday and Tuesday.

Everything about those clouds looks circular.
Our most recent storm is moving your way.
Stay warm.

I love clouds like those! What a beautiful photo! Our sky was similar today, and it made me wonder if the weather people knew what they were talking about when they said freezing rain and snow was expected. They canceled the ice, but we did get some this evening anyway.

Thanks for visiting my blog,
Sue

I forgot to give you this link to a blog I don't follow, but have bookmarked and have checked on from time to time. It's a woman in Fremont who has this blog, which is heavy with family pics. I looked around, and she has some pics of her yard in July.

The snow is usually melted by April, but it has been known to snow then, too. ;o)

You may have noticed the Nebraska Birding blog in the Skywatch list. That's a great one to see pics of Nebraska.

It is clear that winter has set in over there. Down here in Sunny South Africa summer has set up his deckchair and has settled in.

The glimpses of blue through a winter sky always make me think summer and think of the transformations that take place in a year. Amazing. God bless.

I think that ice hit all of us this week. Nice SWF.

I actually see puddles of water on the road this morn..it was ice the past two day. But I haven't seen any of that color blue skies in a while....even a peep at them would be nice.

Pat, I love the way you have captured the light and the blue of the sky through the gray clouds. Just beautiful. Hope you stay warm and damage free through the storms.
