Today's Flowers, May 3

Variegated Weigela
Weigela florida 'Variegata'

Another gorgeous blooming plant in my daughter's garden. Most of the flowers and shrubs she planted were to attract birds and butterflies. Weigela is a favorite of hummingbirds; surely they will be attracted to these beautiful blossoms.

Today's Flowers is a weekly Meme created by Luiz Santilli, Jr. and may be found here. Please visit to see others' lovely flower photos. If you have a flower photo of your own to share, please join us.

Love Weigela. I planted a varigated one last year but so far no blooms. Nice to see what I have to look forward to.

Lovely flowers. I'd love to plant something that would attract hummingbirds but nothing much grows well in my very shady back yard.

Hello Pat!
Thank you for your comment on my blog…it is very nice to hear from another inhabitant of Arkansas! We are feeling a little waterlogged here too and will be glad to see the sun tomorrow. I enjoyed browsing your blog and seeing your photos. I didn’t realize hummingbirds are fond of weigela as this is the first year mine has bloomed.

I had never heard of these till my daughter got me three of them...not the variegated. Mine have not started to bloom yet.

The Weigela is a lovely spring shrub. Great to plant a garden to attract birds and butterflies and other creatures which need a helping hand.
mine is on threemonkeys)

Lovely photo! At one time I would never have given a thought to what attracts birds and butterflies, but I am entering into a new phase o my life and from now on everything I buy for the garden will be given great thought. Thank you for sharing this beautiful photo. Have a great week.

This is gorgeous. I have a weigela, but it isn't variegated -- your daughter's is much prettier!

I've not heard of Weigela since living in Missouri nearly 35 years ago. Nice reminder and lovely photos!

Beautiful flowers. I have a black thumb, I'm afraid. I did manage to keep a Shamrock alive for several years, but it seemed to thrive on neglect and it's a good thing it did.

Beautiful flowers. My sister lives in Jacksonville. Maybe I will visit some day.

What lovely blossoms and an intriguing plant. I wonder if they'd grow here? I've got hummingbirds all the time in my yard so this would be a gift to them.
Hugs and blessings,
