I am truly sorry that I do not know the name of this magnificent Bearded Iris. It's one of several gorgeous flowers of that species that grow in my Gardening Daughter's yard, and one of the most striking blooms of its type that I have seen. I'm growing very fond of Iris although I have only two or three varieties in my garden. I hope to be able to add to my collection when my daughter divides her clumps.
Today's Flowers is a weekly Meme created by Luiz Santilli, Jr. and currently hosted by Luiz Santilli, Jr., Denise in Virginia, Laerte Pupo and Sandy Carlson. I do love bearded iris and i can't grow them here. Ptuiii! we had oodles of them when i lived in New Mexico. love your prayer shawl. i much prefer crochet .. not as heavy feeling on my poor arthritic hands .. or maybe i'm using that as an excuse! i do knit, just not as often as the crochet. making prayer shawls is a lovely ministry. i must get back to it.......
hugs---
Beautiful what ever it is called, other than an Iris.
Those are beautiful flowers whate'er their name! I use to have some purple shades in Ohio and I just loved them...
Thanks for sharing those...
Hi Pat, OH --how I love Irises. We have one similar to that in our yard --and it's just so pretty.
Guess what? After an all-day rain yesterday, we woke up to some snow this morning. Gads!!!
Hugs,
Betsy
That gorgeous flower is having her own party. It certainly looks like it is swirling her ball gown. Wonderful colour. Oh, I know it's a bearded Iris, but i still think it's a woman ;-)
Beautiful Iris. My mother loved them and also cannas which grew well in Texas.
May be back in LR again if I can ever get the Dr to answer the phone
What a gorgeous colour, Pat, and did you know that in the language of flowers an iris means 'faith, hope and wisdom'? x

We have some irises here, and I always look forward to them flowering. They are amazing flowers really, combining wonderful structures with colour and beauty. I have not seen one the colour of the one that is in your photograph, it is breathtaking.
Pat,
thank you for visiting and leaving a comment.
Your bearded iris is indeed very beautiful.
Iris is a genus of 260 species of flowering plants with showy flowers. Perhaps one of the iris society can help you with the name.
- Cheers Gisela.
Gorgeous iris! Irises are one of the few flowers we grow. All have come to us from friends (or friends of friends) and we have no idea of their names, but that doesn't prevent us from enjoying their beauty.
That is one beautiful iris, bright and yellow.
