Day Lilies

GRAND OPENING!

First day lily bloom of the season.
(sorry, don't know the variety)

COMING SOON!

Although I've complained quite a lot a bit about the amount of rain we've had this month, it evidently has been very good for my day lilies. I've not counted them, but I estimate that currently there are over 100 buds on the lilies, and there are several varieties that have not yet budded. My camera and I will be busy for the next few weeks. YAY!

Hi Pat, Pretty daylily.... Ours haven't bloomed yet---but like yours, there are TONS of buds on all of our lilies. Won't be long!!!!!!! We can both share our lilies and daylilies at the same time... ha

Hope you have had a great day.
Hugs,

Lovely flowers. I can see why you like them what a treat you have in store with over 100 buds to go! Do they have a nice scent? Laura has planted some here, but they haven't flowered. Probably too much shade or something. Laura is now showing me several pages of photos of Day Lilies that are in a book that she has, The Royal Horticultural Society A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants. It is the sort of book that needs a crane to lift it. A great retreat in winter to be had between its pages. Best Wishes, P.

Ours have not bloomed yet in Northern Arkansas. We only have what I call the common day lily. I have a few Asiatic lillies.

Just beautiful, ours aren't even close to opening.

Peter: In re your question about day lily fragrance: very little, if any. They are just showy, and aptly named since the blossom lasts only one day! The one I photographed yesterday afternoon will this morning be not only faded, but collapsed and ready to fall off the stalk. Fortunately, day lilies are prolific bloomers; I had one mature plant that produced 60 blooms last year -- one or two at a time.

So pretty and I am jealous. I can't wait for mine to start. They are just thinking about it now. Mine are common daylilies, gifts from a friend. I even like the foliage though.

I wandered over from NitWit1's place and was delighted to see your beautiful daylilly. The Easter lillies I plant each year have bloomed already. (We live in Texas) The stargazer lilly my cousin gave me last year is about to bloom. We have made more sun area in our yard by cutting back some shrubs that had gotten out of hand and having a tree taken down that had served its purpose, which was to provide shade until the live oak got big enough to handle it. Since I have more sunlight my daylillies are coming back.
