A Fine Evening Out

Photo - Shogun Japanese Steakhouse

My son, who lives nearby, called me yesterday to invite me to a birthday dinner for his youngest daughter. One of her favorite places to eat is the Shogun Japanese Steakhouse in Little Rock --  and that's where we dined earlier this evening.  Amidst flashing knives and spatulas, flaming oil and much showmanship, we were served delicious food, and plenty of it.  I have a take-home box that will provide a generous lunch tomorrow.

My granddaughter married a fine young man from northern Arkansas, and she moved there a couple of years ago. They live in a small, rural community not too many miles from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville Campus where she is studying.   It's a moderate commute, but she seems not to mind at all.  It was wonderful to see her and her family (her husband has a lovely young daughter who came down here with them.)

I drove to the home of  my son and daughter-in-law about 30 minutes before we needed to leave for Little Rock for the express purpose of meeting their two newly acquired dogs; five year old greyhounds which they adopted. They are beautiful male brindle greyhounds named Heart and Luke.  Huge dogs, but quite social. I was greeted politely, then mostly ignored.

These are not the first greyhounds in their home. They had an adored female named Hope who lived with them for a long time before she died a couple of years ago. She, too, was adopted.  They have been looking for another greyhound for some time, and originally thought they would take only one, but fell in love with both dogs and couldn't leave one behind.

I had an extremely pleasant evening, made even more so by viewing the beautiful super perigee moon on our way home.

Tomorrow is also a day.

Sounds like you had a great evening out. I've never been to a Japanese Steak House. I think I would want my first visit to be with someone who was familiar with the experience.

Congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law for adopting the greyhounds. There are far too many unwanted dogs and cats in this world. Adoption/rescue is by far the best way to bring a new pet into one's home IMHO.

It had been overcast here all day and our forecast said we might get gradual clearing on Sunday. Jo and I were resigned to the fact we would not get to see the super perigee moon. However, our sky quickly cleared around eight o'clock and there she was. Beautiful.

Oh lucky you. I have always wanted to have my food set on fire in front of me.
I congratulate your family on adopting greyhounds. They are marvelous dogs--I have had a few. They are such sweet animals that just want affection.
You just have to watch them around small running animals, like the neighbors cats.

Hi Pat,

Yay! What fun, to be with family, have that fun dinner. The joint around here are called Shoji's.

I have heard that Greyhounds are sweeties, and that some people leave the t.v. on for them to watch because they are such visual dogs.

I couldn't help but wonder if your granddaughter and her family live close to Summers, or know where it is. When we were there, we went to visit Fayetteville, which the locals pronounced as "Fedville".

I envy you, Pat, for being able to see the big moon last night. It was all clouded over here, so we missed out.

Take care and have a wonderful Sunday!

I'm glad that you had a wonderful evening with family. We like to go to the Fuji Japanese Steakhouse in Fort Smith.

Pat, sounds like a wonderful evening. It's been years since I've been to a Japanese steak house, but remember how entertaining it was ... not to mention the good food. I love greyhounds ... they are such sweet and loving dogs (as long as they are on leashes so they don't chase the squirrels ... then they are off for the run!).......

Missed the moon ... cloudy ... :-(

I love Shoguns but haven't been there in a couple of years. We used to go with friends who have since divorced and it seems we sort of forget about it when we're there now. I've read about adopting greyhounds but haven't met anyone who actually has been through the experience. Are they house dogs? And how are they with children? blessings, marlene

From the photo, looks like the Chef had quite a flame going. LOL Our son and his wife years ago, adopted three greyhounds. They were all beautiful animals. They were going to put them to sleep since they could no longer race them, so daughter-in-law convinced our son they should take three of them. When we went to visit them, they live in Fl, they let us sleep in their bedroom. I had to get up during the night to go to the bathroom, didn't realize there would be three dogs laying by my side of the bed, I sure did some tall jumping around, trying not to step on any of their legs, it was funny at breakfast, but not at the time it was happening.
