Today's Flowers - May 31

What starts out looking like this:

Soon turns into this.

My hydrangea bush is loaded down with blooms in all stages of development. Some are just emerging, others are in the half-way stage looking partly greenish-ivory - partly blue, while others have reached their peak of blueness. I never cease to get great enjoyment from looking at the blossoms. This particular plant came to my family as a gift at the time of my father's funeral in 1965 and has been growing on the northeast edge of my home since then.

JP kept hacking at my Hydrangea until I begged him to leave it alone. This year it has grown spindly but I am hoping it will survive to produce flowers. I live in hope.

Very beautiful Hydrangea, you must have acid soil to get that rich blue.

Hydrangea my favorite next to peonies!
Yours are way ahead of ours here in my Canadian zone 6 garden..mine will flower in the late summer.
I adore the blue..hopefully I can plant one..I suppose it likes an acid soil?
Enjoy TF.

I love the contrast between the two, and the flowers are beautiful!

Our Hydrangea always turns pink. They say it's according to the type of soil you have whether it will be blue or pink.

I haven't tried Hydrangea here. I see them at the nursery, but think 'don't I have enough in the garden?'..... Nah!

This is an amazing transformation! The history behind one of my favorite flowers is touching and a tribute to how hardy Hydrangeas must be and how lovingly you've cared for it.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow, you mean all I have to do to get loads of comments is show a blue hydrangea?

Yours is especially lovely. And to think it has been there for so many years, too, boggles the mind.
