Just before noon, huge feathery flakes started falling from the heavens even though the temperature was a couple of degrees above the freezing mark. The flakes gradually became smaller and ceased shortly before sunset. We have no snow accumulation on the sidewalks, driveways or streets, and probably only about 3/4 of an inch on the ground. However, what snow remains will still be there in the morning since it's well below freezing now. The forecast calls for continuing chill for the next few days, but the precipitation has moved on.
The birds -- cardinals, juncos, sparrows. doves and grackles -- came to the feeder areas in droves as soon as it began to snow. Is there anything prettier than a bright red cardinal sitting on a bare branch with huge snowflakes falling around him?
I did stay bundled up and, except for filling the feeders, inside all day. I played with my Kindle, successfully downloading a few free books, and managed to read about 60% of one this evening. It's fluff, but it was free, and is proving to be a relatively quick read, once I became used to the Kindle screen. I've put a few books for which one has to pay a small fee ($0.89 to $2.99) on my wish list.
That's it for this 20th day of 2011. Tomorrow is also a day.

Glad you got some snow, Pat. We got about an inch here --but none on the roads or sidewalks. It was enough though for schools to close again tomorrow.
You got a pretty picture of yours.... YES---tis a good time to wrap up and read a book!!!!

It sounds as if we got about the same amount of snow that you got, and it has also turned cold again. I'm glad to hear that you are putting your new Kindle through it's paces.
We had a lot of snow in December but January started wet and grey.
So you use kindle! I got an i-pad for my birthday. It's nice to take this in my suit case or bag when I am visiting.
This time Pat, we got the heavy stuff and boy am I happy. Three inches covers so much. Nine degrees this AM.
Enjoy that Kindle. It takes some checking to get a really decent book. I usually read some of the good reviews and also the bad.
Often you can get the early books of established authors free or next to nothing. I enjoy the hunt almost as much as the read.
So far only one clunker and it was one I paid full price for from an established author. Books are a crap shoot.
We are visiting in the Birmingham, Alabama, area for a few days and the "dusting" came within about 30 miles of us last night. Residual Arkansas flakes, I'd imagine. Don't have a clue what north Georgia is like today. (We are here for daughter's birthday.)

We've got about a foot which has accumulated just this month.. nothing too much but it's COLD. I'm glad you're enjoying your Kindle.
A couple of inches of heavy, wet snow to your north on Thursday morning and early afternoon. No melting on Friday.
Male cardinals certainly add a splash of color to otherwise drab winter views.
