More 1999 Books

(Dover clip art)

The books I read in March, 1999:

Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden
Strange Brew - Kathy Hogan Trocheck
The Cobra Event - Richard Preston
The Eleventh Plague - John Marr, John Baldwin
Name Withheld - J.A. Jance
Pest Control -  Bill Fitzhugh (funny, funny, funny - my opinion)
Curses - Aaron Elkins
Murder at the Feast of Rejoicing - Lynda S. Robinson
Stone Angel - Carol O'Connell

Murder, mayhem, comedy, psychological drama, ancient Egypt, medical thriller/mysteries, and the intriguing life of a geisha.  What a mix!

I don't know why I didn't think to provide links to the books I listed in my previous posts, here and here, but you might be curious enough to check them out.  The links are to Amazon.com, but your local library should have, or be able to obtain, a copy of any book in which you might have an interest.

Tomorrow is also a day.*

* A short, closing sentence I picked up from reading about Luis Mendoza, Detective Lieutenant, Central Homicide, Los Angeles Police Department, a fictional character in the (now sometimes politically-incorrect) police procedural novels by Dell Shannon (Elizabeth Linington.)  There are, I believe, 37 books in the series, published from 1960 - 1986; I've read them all.  Lt. Mendoza didn't have a lab full of  CSI-type folks analyzing minute traces of DNA in things left at the crime scene; forensic investigation was limited to fingerprints, ballistics, and blood-type analysis. Lt. Mendoza, like Agatha Christie's  Hercule Poirot, used his "little gray cells" to bring criminals to justice.

I read The Memoires of a Geisha and Pest Control and loved them both. I really should keep a list of my reading, such a good idea. Saz gave me a book one Christmas to list them in and I did use it for a while-must search it out and start again.
Trouble with me is that if I don't note the titles straight away or have all my books near me I've forgotten who wrote what. Just finished one the other day and, f you offered me a million pounds I couldn't tell you what it was entitled; I only know it was FANTASTIC!

Mimi Come on, but bring Darla with you! The only book from that list of 12 years ago that is still on my bookshelves is Memoirs of a Geisha, but I have some others that you can read. In the meantime, Darla and I will play in the back yard, and she can be my lawn-mower.

Wow, you put my 5 books per month to shame.
Those were all great books that I remember seeing them on best seller lists but 99 was a rough year for me and I did very little reading.
Thanks, I may go back and see what I missed.

I think it's cool that you have something to refer to that tells you what books you read during a certain time period. I wish I had notes of that sort. Charting the passage of time by the literature one is absorbing during it is a somewhat fascinating subject.

I'm very impressed with your reading. I thought I was a pretty good reader, but it would take me much of a year to read this many books.

Hi Pat, I wondered what that quote (Tomorrow is also a Day) came from ... If ever there was a true statement, that is one!!!!

I remember some of those books --although I'm not an avid reader like you are. You have read quite a variety.... That is what I do too....

Hugs,
Betsy
